Wind Turbines

A 6kW Proven powered We are factory trained by Proven Energy and trusted by them to supply, install and maintain their excellent range of wind turbines. We chose Proven Energy machines because they are robust, elegant and powerful and because we are satisfied that they will reliably generate clean, renewable, inflation proof electricity year after year - just what is needed from a wind turbine!

Proven Energy Wind Turbines are downwind, self regulating machines that are built to marine quality standards. They utilise materials such as galvanised steel, stainless steel and tough plastics enabling them to be used in coastal positions without modification. In wind speeds above 12m/s (25mph) the blades twist allowing the wind to spill thus limiting the run speed of the machine ensuring its durability.

A 15kW Proven wind turbine

We can assess the potential of your site, guide you through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme grant application process and assist you with any planning application.

We supply three sizes of machine, 2.5kW, 6kW and 15kW. Each has two self supporting tower height options. Currently the maximum LCBP grant available for a domestic installation is £2,500. For community, charity and public sector installations up to 30% of the project cost is available under Phase 2 of the programme.

Before any LCBP grant is paid, our wind turbine installations start from just over £9.5k for the 2.5kW, £17k for the 6kW and £38k for the 15kW. These prices are of course subject to site specific circumstances and exclude VAT, delivery to site, ground work, SWA cable, a telehandler or similar equipment to offload and position the turbine, and an AC electrical feed.

Both our domestic and commercial installations typically take less than a week to complete. We work in an organised and methodical way and pre-prepare many items in our workshop before coming to site. We can usually arrive on site within 8 weeks of receiving your order.

A 6kW Proven wind turbine in CornwallThe first step for any wind turbine installation is to obtain an estimate of the average wind speed for the proposed site and to consider the overall feasibility of the project. Because of the variability in the wind from place to place we insist on carrying out a feasibility study. This includes; desk based research, visit and survey of the proposed site and preparation of a report together with our full recommendations for wind turbine size, positioning, tower height, cable sizing, grid connection etc. We typically charge £250 inc.VAT (within 150 miles of our base) to undertake such a study. The amount is refunded on receipt of any subsequent order.

Planning for Wind

Small wind energy installations usually require planning permission and local consultation with relevant stakeholders, such as neighbours. Deciding factors include environmental considerations, access to the site, noise and visual effect. Overall, national planning policies support the development of small scale wind energy, as noted below.

Planning Policy Statement 22 (PPS22) sets out a clear national policy framework on renewable energy for planning authorities in England to ensure that the Government's renewable energy targets are met. Under PPS22 Regional and Local Planning Authorities should recognise the full range of renewable energy sources, their differing characteristics, locational requirements and the potential for exploiting them subject to appropriate environmental safeguards. Small scale developments can also be permitted within areas such as National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coasts provided that there is no serious environmental detriment to the area concerned. PPS22 introduces a new policy area for small systems by encouraging Local Planning Authorities to require that new developments should supply a percentage of their energy needs from onsite renewable energy sources.

Harness the Power of the Wind

Wind power is proportional to the cube of the wind's speed,
so relatively minor changes in wind speed result in large changes in output.
