The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has introduced a feed in tariff. The scheme is known as ‘Clean Energy Cashback’
The scheme will pay for every kWh generated by a photovoltaic system – even if it is used within the property!
From now on owners of grid connected, retrofitted, photovoltaic systems of 4kWp or less will receive an index linked 41.3p per kWh generated in Clean Energy Cashback for 25 years. For domestic customers this is tax free.
Additionally, where the electricity is used within the property importing electricity from the grid is avoided (Saves approx. further 15p/kWh) or if the solar electricity is exported then there will be a guaranteed legal minimum payment of 3p/kWh.| PV system size | Situation | Cash back / kWh | Total inc. avoiding import |

For a typical 2.16kWp domestic PV system this equates to an annual cashback payment of around £760 - excluding savings from avoided import and payments for any exported power. DECC’s intention is to incentivise photovoltaic systems with a return on investment of between
5 and 8%.
The above rates apply to systems installed until 31 March 2012.

From April 2010 SME’s will be eligible for the Clean Energy Cash Back Scheme. (See above)
